Am I able to transfer a pension into/out of NPPS?

The New Police Pension Scheme (NPPS) closed to new members on 31 March 2015. Transfers into this scheme are only possible for active protected  police officers or those who join Police Scotland from another force in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and were already eligible for protection in the equivalent 2006 scheme.

If you joined Police Scotland from another UK police force, transfers can normally be completed on a like for like basis. Please contact SPPA to arrange this.

Transfers from other arrangements are subject to time limits, and a transfer of these benefits can only proceed when:
• you have completed a transfer application form providing SPPA with full details of your previous pension provider
• the value of your previous pension rights has been obtained by the SPPA
• you have been notified by us of the membership that the transfer will buy you in the NPPS
• you have returned our transfer forms confirming you wish to complete this transfer
• the transfer payment has been received before you transition into the CARE (2015) scheme or reach normal pension age within the NPPS.

Please contact SPPA on 01896 893 000 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   to request a transfer application form.

Please be aware SPPA cannot provide financial advice to you regarding whether or not to transfer your pension.  If you require advice please contact an independent financial advisor.
